Respite Care

Helping Hands

For a number of years, Devon County Council has contracted with Oak House (Exeter) Ltd to provide a subsidised respite care bed in line with central government's Dementia Strategy. Unfortunately they have informed us that, from April 1st 2010, this contract will no longer be continued due to the financial restraint required by the County Council. This decision is to be regretted as it will inevitably curtail the availability and choice of respite care for Exeter area carers.

Initially Oak House continued to offer this service only when a bed was available but it soon became apparent that Carers needed to be able to book respite cover in advance in order to book holidays for themselves.  With effect from April 2013 Oak House has a dedicated Respite Bed again and can take bookings up to a year in advance.

Bookings can be made directly with Oak House if privately funding the respite or through Care Direct.
